When does the season start? The spring season begins with player evaluations and team selections in January. What is the cost for Spring Ball?

The season runs approximately weeks with games beginning in February and concluding with a season-ending tournament in late April or early May. We typically schedule a one week break coinciding with the Encinitas Union School District's spring break. When are games and practices?

For 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U divisions there are two games and one practice per week. Where are games and practices? Most games and practices are held at Cardiff Sports Park though some games and practices are held at other parks and schools in North San Diego County. January and February practices may be held at various elementary schools in Encinitas. How are teams formed? We cannot guarantee coach or teammate requests, but will honor them whenever possible.

What happens at player assessments? Player assessments typically consist of each player hitting 1 bunt and 5 hits off a pitching machine, running to 2nd base on the last hit, fielding 3 ground balls at shortstop and 3 fly balls in left field. What is the appropriate division for my player? Divisions are based on the player's year of birth:. Softball Players wishing to play outside their normal division i. What do I need to provide? Although similar to baseball, it is played with a larger ball than a baseball.

Softballs are, in fact, not soft, but are harder than baseballs. The pitcher throws underhanded instead of overhanded, and the diamond is typically smaller than a baseball diamond.

This can also apply to serious high school teams or other competitive teams. Softball players need to be able to run and have quick reflexes, so conditioning is essential for competitive players. Depending on where you or your child is playing, practices typically start at the end of January. If your child is playing a more casual form of softball, it may start a little bit later in the year.

It is at this point where you or your child will begin to actually play the game. During the time, players will play their own team. Most often, softball games start at the beginning of March. The season typically runs til the end of April. However, this may vary depending on your school or league. You should check with them to learn the official start date of the softball games you or your child will play. In some leagues, or in college softball, the best teams of the season will go on to compete in the regionals.

This is typically done at the end of April through the month of May.
