Everything around here was burning a lot of oil when we were using some cheap mom n pop oil companies house blend, spent a couple dollars more and switched to Delo in everything and consumption dropped drastically. I am also a firm believer in changing oil sooner than the book or alarm in the machine says to. Oil and stabilizers imo are cheaper than engine failures. I just don't have a lot of time for downtime, again this is just opinions of what we see without any oil samples sent off. When we ran Rottela the oil seemed very thin and lacked lubricity when you would touch it.
Maybe I'm just dreaming, should try samples sometime. I'd reccommend it, modern oils changed at the OEM intervals or less should need no additives. If the Lucas isn't extending your drain its not saving you any money because a modern high quality oil like Cenex will protect your engine just fine.
Again, not trying to discredit you or come off as preaching, but I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. The people who will put it in because they think its supposed to help, but do not really have any data to back it up.
Sure it may help some things here and there, but at some point you'll be overhauling the engine anyways why waste extra money to get to that point? Most people should have no issues hitting that unless you are putting over 1k hrs on in a year and running a poor oil. If the machine is warranty though follow the book, however if it is warranty do not put Lucas in.
It gives them an exit plan, warranties have been denied because of it in the past. I'm just being the skeptic on the opposite site of the spectrum. I'm not here to say you can't do anything by gut feeling or because you want to. Do what makes you happy and comfortable. For me that involves finding the best products for the money. I love extending oil drains and seeing how far I can go, that does not mean I buy the most expensive oil or additives, it means I find an oil that goes the furthest for the lowest price.

We never shut our truck off at those kinds of temperatures. No APU. No Espar. The motor would freeze up and we would freeze to death. It's 10 degrees where I'm at. My block heater kept my oil at 85 degrees and my water at Parked for 12 hours. To the OP. A plastic drop cloth to contain the heat will help.

I wouldn't let the flame of the torch come in contact with the pan and there's no oil residue on the outside of the pan. And as for the Oil Shell paid for a new oil pump on my engine when it was discovered by Speedco that the viscosity of the oil was sub-par at the previous PM I then told them of the failure and they paid for the repair. So I'm now aware that things aren't always as stated with the quality of motor oils.
